My mom surprised me with an a delivery of my favorite pizza & ice cream from Ohio to LA for my birthday. She packed it in a cooler on ice & shipped via UPS for $350+ so it could be delivered next day during my birthday party. UPS lost the package for 2 days and delivered on the 3rd – refused refund.

  1. We used UPS red once and the package was a week late. We called the support line. The lady said it’s guaranteed unless it doesn’t make it. That’s literally what she said. I think she just tripped over her words but we still joke about it years later.

  2. Tell your Mom to leave a bad review on their website. My husband (then bf) did the same for me over a year ago, he sent me a full package of goodies, 3 months later he got the returned package on the mail and they started calling him saying they were going to charge him extra for returning the package to the origin destination. He then refused any further paymend and asked for his money back since it never reached its destination. UPS denied the refund so I went ahead and wrote the truest review, explaining how they lost my package, not delivering it and returning it out of the given time frame causing all the perishables to go bad, when it was promised it would be delivered on time, i even went ahead and quoted some of the info they have written down on the “about us”page on their website and explained why it was not true and how they didn’t “practiced what they preached”. He got a refund.

  3. Maybe it’s because I come from the lower class/poor people, but is anyone else questioning the thought process of spending $400+ (cost of cooler and pizza and block ice) to send their kid a couple slices of their fav pizza? I mean I get it’s a nice gesture but damn i gotta think there’s a shit ton of better uses to spend $400 on a Bday present.

Also fuck ups, always trying to screw the customer- regardless you should get a refund OP or have mon run a chargeback on the card she paid with

  4. UPS is the absolute worst company to deal with. They’ve lost so many of my items and said “it shows as delivered and the GPS in the truck shows it was in that area”… when my security cams show no UPS drop offs. Randomly the packages will show up days later without so much as a word. Screw them. Sorry for your mom’s loss OP. 🙁

  5. Never ship regular ice in the mail, use dry ice. You can buy a 10 lb brick at the grocery store for under $15. Make sure you don’t put the dry ice in a sealed container though. When it starts to melt it will turn into CO2 gas and could cause a sealed container like a cooler to explode.

  6. I work at a UPS Store. I highly do not recommend shipping food like this that needs to stay frozen, especially ice cream. You really need to use dry ice, you can’t expect something to stay frozen with just icecubes and a cooler. On top of that, the coronavirus has made all of our shipping dates estimated. Whether you pay $20 for ground or $200 for NDA, nothing is guaranteed. That should have been stated before the package was shipped out, if not then that’s unfortunate. I feel like there’s more then what meets the eye here.

  7. Something similar happened to me 20+ years ago when my mother tried to ship me fresh peaches from their backyard tree overnight via FedEx. They took 3 days to arrive and had started to ferment. They stank and were partly smushed. I don’t know if Mom got a refund, either.

  8. I see a lot of people bashing UPS, but know a lot of carriers are trying their best to get their package to you on time. COVID has overwhelmed delivery services. My husband is a carrier and I know he doesn’t come home until 11pm sometimes (he starts at 9). His uniform has white tips from the salt he sweats out. He studies maps of his delivery area because his gps fails frequently.

So maybe think of your fellow human trying their best instead of complaining about poorly packed pizza and ice cream not making it across the country fast enough for your birthday party?

  9. I’ve had a few customers want to do something similar with perishable food & ice packs and I’ve strongly encouraged them not to because none of the carriers are guaranteeing their delivery time commitments on air services due to a number of COVID related issues. No carrier is issuing any refunds at all for late deliveries.

Really sucks about the pizza & ice cream. Happy belated birthday!
