  1. > Santos called 911 claiming that the unidentified teenager was seen on video “breaking into cars” and that he thought the teen had stolen a bike. Prosecutors with the Hillsborough State Attorney’s Office said there was no evidence of any crimes.

    Another Arbery situation.

  2. *A former Florida theme park security guard has been arrested for allegedly acting like a “vigilante” when he “racially profiled” and falsely detained a Black teen who was on his way to basketball practice, prosecutors said. The 18-year-old was riding his bicycle during the early morning hours of June 8 when Luis Santos drove his car alongside the teenager.*

*”You work here? You live here?” asked Santos, 54, as he recorded with a cellphone, according to excerpts released by prosecutors. The teenager stopped and answered Santos’ questions before the situation quickly escalated.*

*”You’re not going anywhere,” said Santos, stepping out of his vehicle. “You’re being detained. You’re not going anywhere.”*

*It took local sheriff’s deputies about eight minutes to arrive after Santos’ call, during which the teen, who kept his hands in the air, was terrified as Santos allegedly placed his right hand over his pants pocket in a “manner that made the victim feel as if the defendant may have a weapon, even though none was seen,” according to the criminal affidavit.*

… Another would-be Zimmerman playing cop.

  3. >”You work here? You live here?” asked Santos, 54, **as he recorded with a cellphone,**

He recorded himself committing a crime. What an idiot

    >”You’re not going anywhere,” said Santos, stepping out of his vehicle. **”You’re being detained. You’re not going anywhere.”**

He’s facing up to 5 years. Who’s being detained now, racist asshole?

  4. >”Before the 30-second video stopped, the young man said he was “sorry.””

    >”Kept his hands in the air”

Not only did this guy illegally stop this kid, the kid is so aware that this is life and death for him that he apologized and did what the guy said. This is the result of racism. The guy is empowered to do this to a good teenager who’s just living his life, and the kid has no choice but to go along because he knows he may die if he doesn’t. We’re still living in a country where black men have to choose between living, and sticking up for their rights.

  5. >Santos identified himself to the 911 operator as an off-duty officer, according to the call recording. Santos had left his job as a theme park security guard six months prior to the incident

That’s one of the most Floridaman things I’ve ever read

  6. >Santos identified himself to the 911 operator as an off-duty officer, according to the call recording. Santos had left his job as a theme park security guard six months prior to the incident, but **because his required security officer certifications were still valid at the time he confronted the teenager, he isn’t being accused of impersonating an officer**, prosecutors said.

    Are you fucking kidding me?
Does this mean because I’ve had lifeguard training I can identify as a Navy SEAL?

  7. I had flashbacks to Trayvon Martin reading that story.

Good on the cops for being nice to that poor kid and helping him get to basketball practice. Also good on them for blowing this Santos guy out of the water for making false statements and being a giant lying-ass prick.

  8. Man I could never imagine having this happen to me as a white female teenager in the US while going to my sport practice.
    What a joke.
    And, it never DID happen.
This kid even said he was sorry.
YOU DID NOTHING WRONG. THAT OFF DUTY SECURITY OFFICER SHOULD BE APOLOGIZING TO THAT KID YESTERDAY.

  9. There are no circumstances, licensed park security guard or not, where falsely identifying oneself as a police officer is OK. The article says they didn’t charge him for impersonation because he did turn out to still have an active security guard permit. This will embolden every last security guard in the state to start saying “yeh, I’m an officer.”

  10. I’m not a lawyer, but this 18 year old kid and his family should seek out one. Unlawful detainment, emotional scarring due to racial profiling etc. Something along those lines. Judging from “former theme park security guard” they may not get much, but to really drive it home to this racist hit him in the pocket.

  11. It reminds me of that public freak out video of the guy who took a wrong turn looking for a fishing spot and ended on private property.

The owner of the property holds him at gunpoint telling him he is trespassing.

He then tells him to leave and when the guy agrees. The other dude changes his mind and says no you’re gonna die here. He clearly was on a power trip and just wanted to kill.

    Does anyone else remember that?
